Hi, I asked my gp for a blood test form, I collected it and it had the wrong tests, ESR was absent, it said I was on Sulphasalazine, I have been on MXT for several years, I rung them again and they gave me another form which had me down as a male, I am female and have been for 52 years, they are useless about certain things, but calling me a male is a joke, there are certain differances you know!!! I have asked now for a gp appt, he can give me a blood form love Kimxx

Seriously though, it's a bit worrying when they can't get something so important right. I hope you get it sorted asap.

Hi, I spoke to my gp on the phone yesterday, he has apologised and said he had done another form for me, hopefully this one will be right love Kimxx

Hi Kim,
I often have this problem regarding marking the right tests on the form. Now when I request a form, I always ask for CRP to be added, as they always leave this off.
Hope you get the correct form this time.

My surgery are very good. They fill in all the details on the form and I complete it by requesting the tests I need.

I hope your dr has given you the correct form, blood tests and sex now!!! It is worrying when your doc doesn't know what he is doing....or is that she!!!

Hi my gp insisted i had sciatica in my knee and gave me morphine which just made me tired and didn't get rid of the pain, in the end i went private and the consultant said i need a new knee as it had totally worn down he gave me a jab and no pain i suffered for 3 weeks with no sleep for nothing. Dont they get on your nerves.....If he forwarded me to my Rheumy doctor i wouldn't have had to suffer, I know how you feel......xx

Hi Kim, What a nightmare - I hope you're back on track soon. I think we end up needing to be our own RA specialists when it comes to GPs. I have an excellent female GP now who will happily admit what she doesn't know and look things up rather than fobbing me off. I really respect this as GPs by the nature of their job can't be experts in everything and I know she's checked the info. Before I was diagnosed I went to my old GP, having seen 2 walk-in doctors as I was away from home, and he didn't ask any family history/symptom questions, didn't examine my red, swollen fingers and had the cheek to look me in the eye, tell me it was my age (I was 33!!) and send me away.  Fuming, I went straight round the corner and registered with a new GP - the one I have now. I'd definitely recommend changing if you're really not happy - it was worth the slight delay in being referred to rhemy to find a better doctor. Vicky xx

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site. I was diagnosed last July after a struggle! So far have seen three different rheumatology consultants in three visits and have seen the rheumatology nurse only once who just gave me printouts of leaflets on mtx and hydroxy (which I already had). My GP seems to think I'm some sort of hysteric. I have no rapport at all and absolutely no faith in any of the doctors at the practice. Where do we go? I'm so thoroughly disheartened by now after nearly a year that I really just want to be left alone. Sorry to rant. Probably not a good day! Val

It certainly doesn't fill you with confidence when your doctors aren't up to scratch. It is so important that you speak to someone and someone who understands the problems of RA. It is great to talk to people on the forum but no-one on here is a RA specialist (as far as I know.) You can always change your doctor if you are not happy. You have to write to family practioners or you can do what I did. I just got a list of doctors in the local area and rang them up to ask if they had any spaces on their panel. Fortunately, I got in the surgery I wanted. You don't have to tell your current doctor you are moving. You just sign on with the new doctor and they do all the necessaries. I did my research before changing so try and find out if there is anyone else who goes to that surgery and ask them how they like it. Someone you know might know someone who has RA and is a patient at the practice. Ask around. It is always wise to do the research before you leave.
